Working Group 1: Standardization

Set up in 1975, the group has completed its work in 1998.

Working Group 2: Research

The group works on different subjects such as "Strategy of Site Investigations” and “Monitoring and Control of Underground Works” as well as "Risk Management".

Working Group 3: Contractual Practices

The group is working at a series of ITA contractual pronouncements addressing the most serious issues in underground construction and the appropriate responses contractually.

Working Group 4: Subsurface Planning

Set up in 1975, the group has completed its work in 2002

Working Group 5: Health and Safety in Works

The aim of the group is to provide guidelines for a better safety during tunnelling works

Working Group 6: Maintenance and Repair

The group is working on "Guidelines for Fire Resistance for Metro tunnels".

Working Group 7: General Approaches to Design

Set up in 1978, the group has completed its work in 1996.

Working Group 8: Catalog of Tunnels

Set up in 1978, the group has completed its work in 1991.

Working Group 9: Seismic Effects

Set up in 1979, the group has completed its work in 1985.

Working Group 10: Costs and Advantages of Urban Public Transport

Set up in 1982, the group has completed its work in 1988.

Working Group 11: Immersed and Floating Tunnels

The group is working on the implementation of a searchable database of immersed tunnels worldwide.

Working Group 12: Shotcrete Use

The group is working on "Guidelines for nozzleman certification", "sprayable mortars for fire protection" as well as "Test programme on evaluation on fibre-reinforced shotcrete".

Working Group 13: Direct and indirect Advantages of Underground Structures

Set up in 1989, the group has completed its work in 2002.

Working Group 14: Mechanized Tunneling

The group is working on "risk management and insurances of TBM tunnelling", "training courses" and on "demonstration of benefits of mechanized tunnelling".

Working Group 15: Underground and Environement

The long term goal of the group is to prepare guidelines and recommendations on environmental aspects related to underground facilities.

Working Group 16: Quality

Set up in 1997, the group has completed its work in 2007.

Working Group 17: Long Tunnels at Great Depth

The group is now working on a report on "long hydraulic tunnels at great depth".

Working Group 18: Training

The aim of the group is to produced training and educational material on tunnelling and underground space use.

Working Group 19: Conventional Tunneling

The group is now working on the elaboration of a "guideline on monitoring in conventional tunnelling" and the elaboration of a report on "special aspects in construction contracts in conventional tunnelling".

Working Group 20: Urban Problems, Underground Solutions

The group's objective is to create an "overview of the typical challenges of urban city planning and the solutions which are offered by the underground space".
