Joint Issue ITA/PIARC of Routes-Roads on Fire Safety in Tunnels
ITA & the World Road Association have prepared and published a special issue of the magazine Routes/Roads specially dedicated to tunnel fire safety. This issue serves the common goal of both associations to exchange multidisciplinary information and foster synergies involving major players in the field. It presents the results obtained by both associations prior to the Mont-Blanc and Tauern tunnel fires as well as numerous initiatives which were launched in connsequence of these catastrophes. The first article prepared jointly by Alfred Haack, former President of ITA and Didier Lacroix, Chairman PIARC Technical Committee on Road Tunnel Operation, highlights the importance of tunnels and their safety, and outlines the current initiatives. It is complemented by a comparative analysis of the major road tunnel fires.
