The most well known network of pedestrian tunnels has been developped by the city of Montreal. This network has been developped to allow inhabitants to circulate in the city during the winter, when temperature can go bellow -20°C. This network has grown and is now a complete "underground city" Other pedestrian underground facilities in urban development have also been developped in Monaco which host the largest network of underground elevators. In Spoleto, Italy, it is envisaged to create an urban mobility system free of motor vehicles and buses through the construction of three vehicle parks -two of these are underground-close to the historical centre of Spoleto and of mechanised systems consisting of moving walkways, lifts and escalators. Another important characteristic of these infrastructures is their underground location in order to respect the historical and architectonical context. This system eliminates atmospheric and noice pollution and it provides additional economic value to the historical centre too.
